Authentic Upper Egypt

Go where most tourists never tread, and gain a true view of a culture so different from ours it can make us see and marvel at all those things we take for granted in our own lives - the luxuries, the stresses, 'the good, the bad and the ugly'… Come along and take your busy mind out for a ride... Find some quiet, some clarity, some fun and some relaxation!

We start with a lovely relaxing sunset sail on a felucca. Truly relaxing, enjoying a lazy float on the Nile for one or two hours and seeing its beautiful scenery pass by… Then, as per your choice, you can either take a ride on a horse or camel through the villages to see the life there, or you can have a demonstration of the traditional Egyptian martial art of stick fighting on the banks of the Nile - and even try your own hand at it during a brief lesson!

After these delights we move on to a village house, where the ladies of the house have slaved over a hot stove for hours to prepare a gorgeous Egyptian meal for us. Be prepared to sit on the floor and eat with your hands - it all adds to the authentic atmosphere! If we can entice her and if you are interested, the old lady in the village who does the henna tattoos for the ladies before the wedding night, will come over and give us henna tattoos as well, with traditional designs for good luck.

Except for during the summer when it's too hot to do so, we will end our Authentic Upper Egyptian experience with a cup of strong, sweet Egyptian tea brewed directly over a wood fire at a farm hut near the banks of the Nile. Sit, sip, reflect and marvel at simplicity of this life, and the multitude of stars above you…

Includes: set-up, pick-up from hotel, felucca ride, horse/camel or stick fighting, drinks, food, henna, tea, transport back to hotel.

Remember that as per the Egyptian system, it is considered nice if you give a small tip (baksheesh - please see our F.A.Q.) to the people involved. This is normal and neither begging from their side, nor condescending from ours.
